Varsity highlights
The Pioneer mens varsity cross country team had a somewhat
disappointing performance at the Jackson invitational, placing 8th of
16 teams. After showing great improvement at Holly the previous
weekend, only one runner was able to improve his time. And, arrgh,
Pioneer was edged out by Saline.
One more time, senior James Naughton led the way. James took 6th
place with a personal record (PR) time of 16:15, his 3rd consecutive
PR. Andy Harvey took 33rd place with a time of 17:17. Joe Anderson
followed with 37th place, while Soren Berg was #52. Mike Roth was
the 5th man, taking 54th place. Mike's time of 17:50 tied his PR.
Freshman Takashi Gould did not run due to illness.
Junior varsity highlights
The JV team ran on Friday afternoon. Although the course was quite wet,
a number of runners had excellent races.
Sophmore Jeff Hubbard easily won the race with a PR time of
17:55. Considering the sloppy conditions, this was an awesome
performance. Way to go Jeff.
About 30 seconds after Jeff, Marty Everin came in and grabbed 2nd place
overall. Marty had a PR time of 18:36.
A total of 13 JV runner established PR's. Brenner Heintz, Jeff Nao
and Nick Wickstrom improved their PR's by over a minute. Considering
the conditions, those are great times. It was a fine performance by
the entire JV team.
